Allegro Announces New Automotive Grade Sine Wave Sensorless BLDC Fan Driver

Allegro MicroSystems, LLC announced the introduction of a new sensorless brushless DC (BLDC) motor controller, the A5932, a more advanced solution on the market today. Allegro's automotive grade A5932 is a three-phase BLDC motor controller designed for high power automotive fan applications with very low vibration and audible noise. The A5932's MOSFET gate driver output adjusts motor current to suit specific application needs, and its user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) enables fast evaluation and reduced time to market. The main automotive applications targeted by the A5932 include seats, batteries, infotainment systems and headlamp cooling fans.

The motor speed can be controlled by applying a duty cycle command to the speed input (SPD), which supports a wide frequency range. At start-up, the motor windings will apply a sinusoidal voltage, which will allow the motor to start quietly and gradually accelerate to the desired speed. The new device has a nominal input voltage from 5.5V to 50V and operates over the -40°C to 150°C temperature range.

The A5932 is available in a 24-contact 4 mm x 4 mm QFN package with exposed thermal pad (suffix 'ES') and a 24-pin TSSOP package with exposed thermal pad (suffix 'LP'). The QFN package features tinned flank, allowing for visual PCB solder inspection. All of these packages are lead-free and feature 100% matte tin leadframe plating.
